Three years ago today, I moved to Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii. In celebration of my time there, I decided to make a post of my favorite hikes on the island. Hiking was a favorite pastime of my husband and I during our time there. You can never go wrong with a hike, especially if you are on one of the Hawaiian Islands.
Okay, I might be a little bias because this was where Andre proposed. However, the view from this hike is beautiful and it is pretty easy. Bonus if you go at sunrise! 🙂
Koko Head Crater
If you love steps, this is the hike for you! If you hate steps (or have a serious medical condition), you may want to avoid this one. With 1000 steps, you will have stunning views the entire way up. One morning, I took a book up and watched a rainstorm over the ocean, it was glorious. Disclaimer: It is also hot AF with no shade, so be warned if you go at mid-day.
Beautiful hike through a lush rainforest. An easy out and back trail that is not too far from Waikiki.
Pu’u Ma’eli’eli Trail
This hike was just a short drive from our apartment. Another great one for a sunrise hike on the Windward side of the island. It can get REALLY muddy though, so be prepared.
A hike that I would rate as moderate, depending on conditions. Beautiful mountain views! Go early and you might be the first ones to the falls. 🙂
This hike was not very well marked, but it was easy to get your bearings on where to go. It ends with a 50 foot waterfall!
There are so many hikes to do on Oahu! Here are just a few of my easy favorites. They are all on the Windward (East) side of the island because that is where Andre and I lived and mostly explored. I didn’t go into detail on how to get there or their lengths. Do your research. Find which hikes are feasible for you physically and location-wise. The biggest thing I want to say during your visit to Oahu is to get out of Waikiki and actually see and enjoy the island!
